How To Look After And Store Your Healing Crystals

Having your Crystals out where you can touch them is an essential part of the life of a happy Crystal, and a happy crystal-owner. However, it is good to be aware that SOME crystals can fade in direct sunlight, (they will be fine for a few hours if you put them out to re-charge, just not long term if you want them to retain their colour.)

Amethyst, Citrine, Carnelian and Amber will fade in the sunlight, as will all coloured Agates and Howlites as they will have been dyed.

Amethyst ClusterIf you are storing your crystals together, do be aware of their individual hardness, the ones to be careful with will be below a 7 on the MOHs scale Graph for MOHs hardness scale click here as they are soft enough to be scratched or marked by each other.

Selenite, Citrine, Kyanite (blue, black or green), Moldavite and Phenacite do Not require charging or cleansing, although personally it always feels like they are a little happier to me when they have been out in the sunlight or moonlight for a while.

If you are storing lots of tumble stones together it is good to add Carnelian as it helps cleanse & charge them.

Tumble stones in a wooden bowlI love having all my stones sitting around so I can touch them when I walk past or absentmindedly give them a cuddle if they are on my desk while I’m thinking about something, but if you feel you must tuck them away, keep them in something natural such as wood or stone (with a piece of velvet or felt inside) not man-made such as plastic.

Large clusters or caves are magical ways to cleanse and energise smaller crystals just place them on a citrine or amethyst cluster to clean them and Amethyst or Clear Quartz to energise.

NEVER ever keep a magnetic stone such as Hematite or Lodestone near electronics. Lodestone will fry your computer!

I often get people asking what it means if they break a crystal – there are many different schools of thought on this, personally I think they have probably finished their job and are now ready for a little rest – (I always bury broken ones in the garden or in a plant pot.)

Storing small crystals in a larger clusterIt is important to NOT keep too many next to your bedside. The energies can create a buzz when put together and cause sleep issues. So if you want to sleep with a crystal, chose one that feels right each night and put the others on a cluster to cleanse them….

Lastly, don’t forget to LOVE your crystals and they will be your friends for life…some of my favourite ones are covered in scratches and faded…much like some of my favourite people ;), so most importantly just make sure you enjoy them!
